The Mystery of It All

Ever wonder if there’s something wrong with you because you just can’t seem to figure out how network marketing works? Why some people seem to do so well yet you seem to be just struggling along hoping that it starts working for you. Ever get so frustrated that you just want to scream?

I sometimes get the feeling that some of the “gurus” aren’t trying to expose any mystery, they’re working hard to maintain it so they can sell us their cure, their magic elixir.

Mystery & Power

The truth is, if a mystery is exposed, the power will be gone in the mystery, and you will have the power instead.

If you have the basics or fundamentals of something, and can apply those basics to your business, or your life, you can cause things to happen and achieve your goals and purposes.


There are a lot of gurus out there selling their secrets to success in network marketing. For the newbies, novices and even people who have been around awhile, it can be very difficult to tell real gurus from the pretended ones.

There are a couple of ways to tell who really has the right stuff. One is to check the statistics of the guru and see if he’s practicing what he preaches and having success with it. The second and I think better way is to find the guru’s students and find out if they are succeeding. Are they able to listen to and understand what the guru is teaching, apply it and have success with it?

Here’s My Favorites

I have a few that put together in correct sequence will improve your odds immensely of achieving your goals in network marketing.

First, are you totally sold on our industry – network marketing? Do you think it’s an honest, ethical and honorable way to build a business? Do you know why it is? Third pick, once you’re sold on the industry, and you’ve picked your company and you’re ready to rock and roll, what do you do? You have to invite people to take a look at your business, of course. Industry veteran Tim Sales has put together a course called “Professional Inviter” that breaks the subject of inviting down into easy pieces that anyone can learn.

I think I’ve dispelled enough mystery for the day. If you avail yourselves of these materials, you’ll be way ahead of the game.

Who Is Successful In Network Marketing?

I am currently reading a book by David Nelson called Create Your Fortune In Network Marketing. I want to share a little bit of it with you as I found this very interesting as it does answer the question I posed, who is successful in network marketing?

Let me introduce him to you. David has been a full-time, network marketing professional for over 20 years. He has a successful track record as a distributor and trainer. He’s had over 100 articles published in industry trade publications. David has a total commitment to network marketing and the viability of network marketing as a home based business enterprise for part-timers and newcomers, and not just the select few full-time recruiters. Because of this philosophy, Cutting Edge Media labeled David the “Protector of the Part-Timer.” He is also a contributing author for Network Marketing Magazine.

The Road Not Taken

In his book, David quotes from a well-known poem by Robert Frost called The Road Not Taken. David uses it to illustrate a choice that network marketers make between focusing on the product, or focusing on the opportunity.

However, I think it applies equally well to the choice that people who want to be self-employed make between traditional businesses and network marketing. Consider that as of April 2009, there were 154,731,000 in the civilian workforce. Most estimates place the number of network marketers between 6 million and 15 million.

Characteristics of Successful Network Marketers

“Here are some characteristics that help people become successful network marketers. They are not in order of priority or importance…

1. Have a white-hot desire to make money.
2. Like people and are genuinely interested in them.
3. Can empathize with others and understand their point of view.
4. Are willing to help others achieve their goals.
5. Are entrepreneurial minded.
6. Have a high energy level and like to be doing things.
7. Take initiative.
8. Have discipline.
9. Are willing to make a sacrifice for a future.
10. Have the skills to organize their time and money in order to accomplish goals.
11. Don’t allow rejection to be personal.
12. Are interested in personal growth and development.
13. Have good communication skills – listening as well as talking.
14. Make and keep commitments.
15. Work with a sense of urgency.
16. Have a high level of self-esteem and self-confidence.
17. Have a positive mental attitude and a winner’s mentality.
18. Are willing to learn from others.
19. Are good teachers, trainers, and motivators.
20. Are consistent and persistent in working toward goals.
21. Are not looking for a “free lunch.”
22. Are team players.
23. Have had success in other areas of life.
24. Seek an improved lifestyle.
25. Place a priority on time freedom
26. Are proactive – take initiative and responsibility to produce desired results.
27. Are ambitious.
28. Are honest, moral, and ethical.
29. Will follow-up and follow-through.”
